The children in year 1 are so excited to make their own moving toy in our parent workshop to share with Reception children. This week they have been designing their own toy made up of a shoe box. The children discussed what skills make a good designer, before choosing a setting for their toy and their characters. Some chose fish in the sea, some chose animals in the jungle and others a rocket in space. The teachers have been extremely impressed with their creative designs.
Over the last few weeks we have been learning about mechanical toys. We have investigated how they work and looked at moving toys of the past and present day. The children then drew an observational drawing of their favourite moving toy.
In preparation for making our moving toys the children have practised using a ruler to measure a length. We look forward to making our toys with you!
